No parent wants to hear their kid got a ticket from a police officer, but this is one ticket you will want your kid to get. Metro is teaming up with 7 - Eleven for Operation Chill. The program lets officers give tickets for kids doing good deeds or showing positive behavior. The ticket is for a free slurpee at 7 - Eleven. Slurpee time!!
Where would we be without computers? Think about where kids would be without them. Thursday, 40 Valley High School students received new state of the art laptops. The Regional Transportation Commission partnered with the Clark County School District and Coca Cola to provide the computers. It was all part of a scholarship opportunity where students were asked to write an essay about how they can reduce their carbon footprint by using RTC services.

What are you reading these days? Sometimes sitting on the porch with a good book makes for the perfect Sunday afternoon. Monday, the Scholastic Books Summer Challenge kicked off. It's a four month literacy program to get kids to read during their summer break. First lady Dawn Gibbons read to some elementary kids this morning to help get things started.
Nevada is getting some much needed money to help the lowest achieving schools, more than $23 million to be exact. The US Secretary of Education made the announcement Wednesday. The money is coming from the American Recovery and Investment Act. In order to get the money, Tier 3 schools are required to submit a plan of how they intend to use the money.
